Welcome!
Welcome to the Website of the Northern Ireland Region of the Communication Workers Union. As this site is currently under construction you will find more information and pages being added over the coming weeks. Hopefully when completed, the Website will enable you to quickly access current topical news when you need it and also provide information on the vast range of products and services, available to CWU members.

Who are the Communication Workers Union?

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) is the biggest union representing the communications industry in the UK with 250,000 members.  CWU represents workers in the Post Office/Royal Mail, BT and other telecom businesses, Alliance & Leicester, O2, Business Post, Virgin Media, Mobile Phone Companies, Call Centres, Cable TV companies and Parcels & Mailing Companies.

The Northern Ireland Region is organised into six branches covering some 6,000 members across Counties, Antrim, Down, Armagh, Tyrone, Derry and Fermanagh.

These branches form the nucleus of the Northern Ireland Regional Committee. As well as the Regional Committee the Northern Ireland Region also has a number of sub-committees:

Health & Safety
Education & Training
Equality Committee.
 Retired Members Committee
Women’s Committee
Youth Committee

   As the Communication Workers Union we aim to: -

  • to provide first class collective and individual representation for all CWU members;
  • to achieve security of employment for all members;
  • to offer individual membership services of the highest quality;
  • to promote, by industrial and political means, the success of the industries in which    our members work;
  • to promote, organise and facilitate access to adult education to enable members to advance their skills for life;
  • to actively oppose all forms of discrimination;
  • to actively campaign to improve workers rights in the workplace;
  • to further these objectives by campaigning and lobbying throughout the national and international community;

The CWU also provides a wide range of Membership Services readily available to all members. To access this section, visit www.cwu.org and log in to the members area.

The Regional Committee strives to eradicate all the injustices that today’s workers face. We as a Trade Union body know that the only way to eliminate our member’s problems is by collective representation. This is why I am proud to serve the Branches, the membership and communities of the Northern Ireland Region in our quest for equality in race, creed, gender and religion in the diverse society that we live, and work in.
